2004: Pretoria Boys’ High School Full Sporting Colours For being part of the school’s teams for 2 years.
2005: Pretoria Boys’ High School Sporting Honours For competing at national level.
November 2006: Order of Ikhamanga The order of Ikhamanga is a national awarded granted by the South African President for Outstanding Achievements in various fields including Sport.
December 2007: BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award for Outstanding Achievement in the face of adversity. Helen Rollason MBE was a British sports journalist and BBC presenter who supported several cancer charities before succumbing to the disease herself aged 43.
April 2008: Time 100 The Time 100 is the annual list of the year’s most influential people as chosen by the Time newspaper and magazine and their readers. Oscar featured under the heading “Heroes and pioneers”.
2010: The Premio International FAIR PLAY Award
was established in 1997 and since 2000 it has been organized and carried out by the “International Mecenate Award Association”. This initiative aims at awarding Prizes to important and significant personalities and/or National and International Sport Institutions because of noteworthy initiatives and behaviours concerning fields that link sport to civil society and that represent high moral values in the specific field of the Fair Play
April 2012: Time 100 Oscar featured again alongside the likes of President Obama as “the definition of global inspiration”.
September 2012: The Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award Oscar was shortlisted for this South Korean award as “someone fair, honest, uncompromising of his values, who prioritises the promotion of the Paralympic Movement above personal interest”.
October 2012: The SA Sports Awards
This award celebrates and honours the nation's top sporting talent, from the legends to the up-and-comers and those competing with disabilities. 'Our sporting heroes are our nation's pride, we honour all the sports stars, the way they deserve to be honoured – as stars’ said Minister of Sports and Recreation. In 2012, after a successful year at the Olympics and Paralympics, Oscar received the award for ‘Sportsman of the Year with a Disability’.
November 2012: Honorary Doctorate from Stathclyde University
This is awarded “to acknowledge exceptional service and contribution to society, and to people with integrity, honesty and openness who through their life’s work serve as role models for the students, graduates and staff of the University and the wider community”.
February 2013: AGN award for Male Athlete of the Year: Track and Field For more than fifty years Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) has been one of the leading athletics provinces in South Africa. AGN has produced some of the finest athletes in the country and many leading members of national representative teams in all section of the sport. In February 2013, the AGN honoured Oscar for his achievements on the field.
