On the inside of his right arm are the dates of his mother's birth and death, ‘LVIII V VIII – II III VI’ (08 May 1958 – 06 March 2002). In 2012 he had the the five interlocking Olympic Rings tattooed on his right arm.

Oscar is a victim of his own success. In order to compete in able-bodied events his blades have to be considerably shorter than those worn by his para-athletic adversaries. Even so, he still won the 400m in the London 2012 Paralympics by a mile.
